SkyORB for iPad released

April 8th, 2010

ИконописикониИконивикматрациSkyORB for iPad is released. It works both on iPhone and iPad.
An new version 1.2.1 has submitted, fixed many improvements requested. It’s fun to see that during the years, how much people want more on application. I means SkyORB 2005 to 2008 was much clunkier (retrospectively) than now and many features are added in SkyORB 3D.

Side-by-side configuration is incorrect

January 20th, 2010

Recently, when I wanted to release SkyORB for PC, I faced again the evil of the SxS (Shame x Sorrow). What happened ?

Here the story.
First, the program is using CRT DLL for lighter package. As I’m doing since VS
2005, I’m packaging the DLL from /vc_redist folder from Visual Studio.

But here what happened:
Since Visual Studio 2008 SP1, the default binding is the RTM version of the CRT DLL, but thoses DLL are not provided by Visual Studio !. The DLL in vc_redist are the LATEST version.

So two solution
- DO NOT redistribute the DLL and recompile as usual, but it’s not good because some machines could not have CRT 9.0 installed.

- Distribute the CRT DLL from the vc_redist but you need to recompile every piece of code (I mean every projects) with a magic define to force the use of the CURRENT CRT version.

But here the trick, if one of the project was not recompiled with the define, Visual Studio will generate an invalid manifest with TWO CRTs dependencies (here what’s happened in my precise case).

EDIT: After battling, only solution is to open Visual Studio Studio 2008, File, Open the executable, go to RT_MANIFEST, and HAND EDITING to remove the dependency on the RTM CRT and save.

Finally, it is good to hear that Visual Studio 2010 will be reverted as it was to the Visual Studio 6 days.

When you Google Side By side configuration error on google, you’ve got 55 millions of hit ..

An update on No Gravity: The Plague of Mind

February 17th, 2009

No Gravity is heading to PSN store. Finally, after almost 2 years since the demo.
It has been certified for PEGI and ESRB recently (7+ and 10+ Everyone).

Here a screenshot for the really first version of No Gravity on PSP (was the ‘classic’ port at the time).

The story of No Gravity now. The 1st version was designed back to early 1996 on a 386 DX 40, Super VGA (640×480). Later we found a potential publisher (Titus), and we’ve made a Windows DX6 version, 3Dfx Glide version and S3 Virge GPU. Also a BeOS version was made for the Bebox (running on a dual PowerPC 603). A MacOS 9 version was made as well. The game was multithreaded at that time.

Later, in 1998 (ish) the project was cancelled.
In 2004, the game was ‘resurrected’, updated for Windows XP with OpenGL, MacOSX. In 2005, the code was released, and port for Linux, Amiga OS was made.

In 2006, the PSP port was attempted, but finally I decided to make a totally new game, new engine, especially for the PSP (although we have internal build for MacOSX, Windows DX9 not available for the public).

So in 2009, game finally (about to be) released, the final version is vastly different, a much bigger vision than originally expected.
